Today's Story on SELF DEVELOPMENT: Sometimes... risks can be taken inch by inch. There are too many sayings that encourage us to take risks and establish that without taking risks we never improve. Of course whilst this philosophy is true, it can be easily misinterpreted! Proof of this will be surely within your own life. These risks can be categorised as thus: An irresponsible risk A Calculated risk We would assume that an irresponsible risk would fail and a calculated risk would be successful. If this was true, which type of risk are you going to use next time? A calculated risk is a plan split into several or even hundreds of movements. Then should failure loom after ten movements the plan can be shelved. However it seems that a greater chance of success will come from meticulous planning. In fact as the start of today's daily wisdom said, 'Inch by inch!' Today's story illustrates that in taking a calculated risk a weakness can become a strength. WEAKNESS OR STRENGTH? A happy 10-year-old boy was involved in an accident, sadly his arm was severely damaged and sadly had to be amputated. That is where the bad news finishes. This young boy still was the same young boy, but he had lost his left arm. His happy disposition was that he still wanted to be involved with everything. So after his request, his parents enrolled him into a 'judo' class. What an enormous task confronted him, with only one arm he was attempting to compete amongst his friends at the same level. The young boy approached the teacher and said he wanted to learn as much as possible about this sport. The judo teacher was apprehensive, but studied carefully the disability and came up with a solution. The judo teacher instructed the young boy to learn one important move. After a few weeks the boy was confused, he asked, 'Why do I only learn one move?' the judo teacher said, 'This is the only move you need to know!' (Inch by inch the boy would practice this move, until his skill was masterful). A few months later the judo school entered the annual national competition. To everyone's surprise the young boy with only one arm progressed through all the stages to the final. His opponent was a boy both larger and physically stronger. The odds were against the young boy with one arm. He tussled bravely and the audience were in fear for the young boy's safety. As the final progressed, it was clear that the young boy was trying to make the same move to win the tournament. But he fought bravely and frustrated the opponent. Suddenly his larger opponent became so disorientated he lost concentration. The young boy tried his move once more and successfully won the tournament for his judo school. The young boy amongst many others was confused but delighted about his win. He approached his judo teacher after the win and asked why he had been so successful. His teacher replied, 'There is only one defence to the move I taught you, if and when you secure the correct grip in your attack, the only defence is to grasp your left arm...' (Unknown Author). QUOTE: "When you take risks there is a possibility of failing, and yet by taking no risks, failure is certain.' (Eva, Author and Philosopher). 'And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more.' (Erica Jong).

Christians, how arrogant are you being by insisting that you are right and everyone else is wrong?
There are many religions in the world, with many millions of followers, most of whom follow their religion purely because of the region they were born in. Therefore religion is an accident of birth. I was baptised a Christian, yet I now follow my own path with Pagan / Spiritualist ideals. My life revolves around the love of God and my fellow Humans, kindness and truth. I respect Christ as a guide sent down to teach important lessons to mankind, as I also respect the prophet Mohammed for the same reasons. Yet many born again Christians wish me to burn in hell. How charitable and loving is that? I find these Christians extraordinarily arrogant in simply dismissing a good part of the world's population as wrong and due to burn, when I find the Christian attitude the most aggressive and least tolerant of all the religions. Please explain how you comply with God's wishes and Christ's teachings by doling out this vile rhetoric? Please explain in your OWN words how you are right?

Christians - would God approve of smoking weed?
Serious question. I know the Bible says that the body is a temple of God and not our own, so we shouldn't defile it with things such as drugs/alcohol etc. But when you look at it another way, Jesus turned water in wine did He not? I mean He could have turned it into fruit juice or anything right?? But He chose something alcoholic. Regarding weed smoking.. a lot of people do it these days. I expect the Christian attitude to be pretty condemning towards it - but you have to wonder. I mean it is a natural plant that God created, it can inspire creativity and in some cases can enhance a spiritual experience. So would God approve of it?

Selective Catholicism and the McCanns.. Can I join their sect?
Sounds pretty great to me.. being able to pick & choose those aspect of the faith which most appeal to me [ problem is that I'm an atheist.. guess that won't matter either! ] Ok so here we have it: a) They are "devout Catholics" yet chose to have IVF to conceive all of their children, despite the fact that this is against the Canons of the Catholic faith... b) They are now consulting psychics... Wait a minute let me quickly consult Paragraphs 2115-2117 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church: -------------------- 2115 God can reveal the future to his prophets or to other saints. Still, a sound Christian attitude consists in putting oneself confidently into the hands of Providence for whatever concerns the future, and giving up all unhealthy curiosity about it. Improvidence, however, can constitute a lack of responsibility. 2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to "unveil" the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honour, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone. ........... 2117 All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one's service and have a supernatural power over others?even if this were for the sake of restoring their health?are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons?.. Spiritualism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another's credulity. Ok so my next question is how the hell can I join up and can I make a buck or two from becoming a member of this sect?? "Peter O" But the problem is that they are the people proclaiming themselves to be "devout Catholics"..so if they want to put that information out there they should expect criticism if they do not adhere to the tenets of Catholicism.
