Today's Story on ADAPTING TO CHANGE: Is change an important part of your life? It is integral! It is like the wind in nature; let me explain: GREAT BARRIER REEF Most people would be aware of the Great Barrier Reef, stretching some 1, 800 miles from New Guinea to Australia. Tour guides regularly take visitors to view the reef. On one tour, the guide was asked an interesting question. "I notice that the lagoon side of the reef looks pale and lifeless, while the ocean side is vibrant and colourful, " a traveller observed. "Why is this?" The guide gave an interesting answer: "The coral around the lagoon side is in still water, with no challenge for its survival. It dies early. The coral on the ocean side is constantly being tested by wind, waves, storms - surges of power. It has to fight for survival every day of its life. As it is challenged and tested it changes and adapts. It grows healthy. It grows strong. And it reproduces." Then he added this telling note: "That's the way it is with every living organism." (Unknown Author). That's how it is with people. Challenged and tested, we come alive! Like coral pounded by the sea, we grow. Physical demands can cause us to grow stronger. Mental and emotional stress can produce tough-mindedness and resiliency. Spiritual testing can produce strength of character and faithfulness. If you want to feel the wind through your hair a little more often, then be ready for the changes in life. These changes are more certain than even the very things we expect to happen. "Be good at dealing with problems and with change. Little is more certain to happen, both today and tomorrow!" QUOTE: "Within you right now is the power to do things you never dreamed possible. This power becomes available to you just as soon as you can change your beliefs." (Dr. Maxwell Maltz, 1899 - 1975, Author).

What exactly constitutes 'common sense'?
Is it intelligence based on intuition in certain situations, such as reading body language, or does it mean purely coming up with the simplest, successful solution to a problem? Some may argue that certain abstract theories in Mathematics, for example, are 'common sense' because the people in question understand the concepts quite easily, whereas others who are 'more intelligent' in other areas may not be able to see what the logically minded people see. However, it seems that people who have been exposed to hardships in life develop greater emotional intelligence on how to deal with stress, anxiety, depression etc, which is exactly my case as a young man. I feel that my 'common sense' intelligence has increased as I have gained in confidence with being social and in myself. But, is the concept of 'common sense' separate from 'academic intelligence'? Why are 'academically gifted' stereotyped as having 'no common sense', and what do people exactly mean by that?

Why dont people realize that God is just in their head?
I have been studying psychology for years and my aunt is a psychiatrist, we always have this discussion so I decided to ask this question on YA and see what you all think. I would love to hear from other psychologists and psychiatrists out there. Anyways I believe that God is just an invention of the human mind, and this is why. The human brain seldom relays thoughts like "you are going to fail, you are a loser, you will die today, you are worthless....etc" (I do know of 2 people who think like that but its very rare that the average Joe goes around thinking like that 24/7) The reason behind this is a mechanism in the human brain, its sole purpose is to prevent the human body from becoming too depressed. So in a way it tricks the brain into believing that everything will be OK just so you wouldn't have a panic attack or go into shock on a daily basis for no reason. I was in deadly situations while serving in the military but I always felt superior and I always felt that I would make it out alive. I was scared to death but that mechanism in my brain kept me from have a panic attack or a heart attack. So now lets get to God; Go is no different from what I described above. NO ONE has ever seen him, hung out with him, video taped him, saw Jesus, spoke to Jesus on the phone...etc. Which leads any logical person to believe that God is only in your mind. And if he is only in 'your' mind then obviously he is your mechanism or way of dealing with stress. The same way I truly believed that I would make it out the war is the same way you truly believe that God is real. But it was also possible that I could have died despite what I believed and its also possible that God is fake despite what you believe Until there is sound testable proof that God exists, then it is safe to say that he only exist's in an individual's mind. I ran this by my aunt and she asked my why I was in graduate school doing psychology instead of med school studying to be a psychitarist....lol. I simply told her that I dont belive in admisntering meds and its easier just to talk to people and give them their logic back. Of course their will still be people around who believe Satan is up and about and I am going to hell, those are the ones that might really need some medication because there is nothing I can do for them if they already reached that stage in life and think humans deserve to burn for eternity

dealing with stress!?
my schools decided to only tell me this week that i have about 10 pieces of coursework due in for friday and that they're taking away my whole years coursework to get another useless qualification. I've lately been really stressed and haven't had an appetite, this is causing me to feel constantly ill. as well as this ive been sleeping constantly and when im not asleep im working. i considered getting a doctors note to the school asking them to cut down my work load but the school wont accept it. any way of either getting them to listen or getting over the stress? i meant taking away the whole years study leave. and its not that im not doing the work, i did half my gcses a year early in year 10. then was expected to pick up 2 AS's and another GCSE in 1 year and because the lack of time all the teachers left coursework till the last minute
