Misfortune shows those who are not really friends.
Aristotle
Hope is a waking dream.
Aristotle
All human actions have one or more of these seven causes: chance, nature, compulsion,
habit, reason, passion, and desire.
Aristotle
Dignity consists not in possessing honors, but in the consciousness that we deserve them.
Aristotle
Humor is the only test of gravity, and gravity of humor; for a subject which will not bear
raillery is suspicious, and a jest which will not bear serious examination is false wit.
Aristotle
In the arena of human life the honors and rewards fall to those who show their good
qualities.
What is a friend? One soul inhabiting two bodies.
Aristotle
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.
Aristotle
Man perfected by society is the best of all animals; he is the most terrible of all when he
lives without law, and without justice.
Aristotle
Men acquire a particular quality by constantly acting a particular way... you become just
by performing just actions, temperate by performing temperate actions, brave by
performing brave actions.
Aristotle
I have gained this by philosophy: that I do without being commanded what others do only
from fear of the law.
Aristotle
Liars when they speak the truth are not believed.

# Miracles happen every day. Not just in remote country villages or at holy sites halfway
across the globe, but here, in our own lives.
Deepak Chopra
# Tune into the presence of miracles, and in an instant, life can be transformed into a
dazzling experience, more wondrous and exciting than we could even imagine.
Deepak Chopra
# When you live your life with an appreciation of coincidences and their meanings, you
connect with the underlying field of infinite possibilities.
Deepak Chopra
# Even when you think you have your life all mapped out, things happen that shape your
destiny in ways you might never have imagined.
Deepak Chopra
# If you and I are having a single thought of violence or hatred against anyone in the
world at this moment, we are contributing to the wounding of the world.
Deepak Chopra Quote
# You and I are essentially infinite choice-makers. In every moment of our existence, we
are in that field of all possibilities where we have access to an infinity of choices.
Deepak Chopra Quote
# If you want to reach a state of bliss, then go beyond your ego and the internal
dialogue. Make a decision to relinquish the need to control, the need to be approved, and
the need to judge. Those are the three things the ego is doing all the time. It's very
important to be aware of them every time they come up.
Deepak Chopra Quote
# The secret of attraction is to love yourself. Attractive people judge neither themselves
nor others. They are open to gestures of love. They think about love, and express their
love in every action. They know that love is not a mere sentiment, but the ultimate truth
at the heart of the universe.
Deepak Chopra Quote
# Every person is a God in embryo. Its only desire is to be born.
Deepak Chopra Quote
# When you live your life with an appreciation of coincidences and their meanings, you
connect with the underlying field of infinite possibilities.
Deepak Chopra Quote
# The less you open your heart to others, the more your heart suffers.
Deepak Chopra Quote

Endurance is one of the most difficult disciplines, but it is to the one who endures that the
final victory comes.
Buddha
Every human being is the author of his own health or disease.
Buddha
Friendship is the only cure for hatred, the only guarantee of peace.
Buddha
Good men and bad men differ radically. Bad men never appreciate kindness shown them,
but wise men appreciate and are grateful. Wise men try to express their appreciation and
gratitude by some return of kindness, not only to their benefactor, but to everyone else.
Buddha
Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule.
Buddha
He is able who thinks he is able.
Buddha
He who loves 50 people has 50 woes; he who loves no one has no woes.
Buddha
Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best
relationship.
Buddha
His success may be great, but be it ever so great the wheel of fortune may turn again and
bring him down into the dust.
Buddha
Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone
else; you are the one who gets burned.
Buddha
If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change.
Buddha
It is a man's own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways.
Buddha
It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours.
It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.
Buddha
It is nature's law that rivers wind, trees grow wood, and, given the opportunity, women
work iniquity.
Buddha
Sutta-Pitaka
Let a man avoid evil deeds as a man who loves life avoids poison.
Buddha
Let yourself be open and life will be easier. A spoon of salt in a glass of water makes the
water undrinkable. A spoon of salt in a lake is almost unnoticed.
Buddha
Neither fire nor wind, birth nor death can erase our good deeds.
Buddha
Never in this world can hatred be stilled by hatred; it will be stilled by non-hatred - this is
the law Eternal.
Buddha
Nothing is permanent.
Buddha

Everything You Want Appears -- Seemingly Out of Thin Air

There is a science that deals with manifesting desires. Many
people regard it as mystical or esoteric, but it's actually a
science like physics or algebra.

There are certain immutable laws that govern the process of
materializing wishes seemingly out of thin air, and once these
laws are complied with, anyone can make their dreams a reality
-- with absolute certainty.

The Atonement - who do you support? Saul of Tarsus or Jean-Jacques Rousseau? Is humanity naturally good or...?
Some people say the Atonement of Sin through the Sacrificial Death of Christ Jesus is not a Christian doctrine but is born of Saul of Tarsus, who became Paul. Some people say all we have to do is repent (stop sinning) and follow Jesus. Around AD 40, Saul of Tarsus, that self-righteous Pharisee, discovered his utter worthlessness and sinfulness when confronted by Jesus on the road to Damascus. In 1749, on the road from Paris to Vincennes, Jean-Jacques Rousseau also experienced a vision - that man is naturally good and it is our institutions that make us wicked. Can humanity excuse itself of guilt and put the blame elsewhere and earn salvation through merit? Or is humanity sinful and subject to God's wrath and condemnation, the only solution being to accept the atoning sacrifice of Christ Jesus? Evidence from God's Word, the Bible, from the words of Jesus and his apostles is required as verification for your theology. Is Atonement a God-given gift or can we earn our salvation? Thank you, Sonrisa, for your background info. Not many people actually know who Jean-Jacques Rosseau was or what he believed in. And can we all excercise restraint and avoid giving anyone a thumbs' down? This is a forum which invites dialogue, not censure. I appreciate what tehabwa says about using the thumbs up or down to denote what you think of an answer. It's just that if I ask a question, I never give anyone a thumbs down, even if I disagree with them. After all, I did ask! Also, if you get a best answer (10 points) and lots of thumbs' up, it adds to your score. So it seems kind of petty to me to try and take away from the points a person could get. Maybe I'm just getting soft in my old age? Anyway, I didn't give you a thumbs' down. I accept that Paul was an apostle - but there are people out there who claim Christianity is based on Paul's version of events and that it isn't reliable. Heard about Gnosticism? So, if you didn't accept the word of Paul, it would be futile to use his arguments on the subject of the atonement. Please be assured I DO accept the writings of Paul. Appreciate Silver Tongue's insight into the Essenes and the argument against Saul of Tarsus/Paul. However, I see no evidence from the words of Jesus or the other apostles to give this theory credence.
