**********************

We are all prone to the malady of the introvert who, with the manifold spectacle of the
world spread out before him, turns away and gazes only upon the emptiness within. But let
us not imagine there is anything grand about the introvert's unhappiness.
Bertrand Russell
To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom.
Bertrand Russell
Our instinctive emotions are those that we have inherited from a much more dangerous
world, and contain, therefore, a larger portion of fear than they should.
Bertrand Russell
There is no nonsense so arrant that it cannot be made the creed of the vast majority by
adequate government action.
Bertrand Russell
The secret of happiness is this: let your interests be as wide as possible, and let your
reactions to the things and persons that interest you be as far as possible friendly rather
than hostile.
Bertrand Russell
The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. The really important
things are not houses and lands, stocks and bonds, automobiles and real state, but
friendships, trust, confidence, empathy, mercy, love and faith.
Bertrand Russell
To be happy in this world, especially when youth is past, it is necessary to feel oneself not
merely an isolated individual whose day will soon be over, but part of the stream of life
slowing on from the first germ to the remote and unknown future.
Bertrand Russell
It is preoccupation with possessions, more than anything else, that prevents men from
living freely and nobly.
Bertrand Russell
Patriotism is the willingness to kill and be killed for trivial reasons.
Bertrand Russell
This idea of weapons of mass exterminations utterly horrible and is something which no
one with one spark of humanity can tolerate. I will not pretend to obey a government
which is organizing a mass massacre of mankind.

Everything You Want Appears -- Seemingly Out of Thin Air

There is a science that deals with manifesting desires. Many
people regard it as mystical or esoteric, but it's actually a
science like physics or algebra.

There are certain immutable laws that govern the process of
materializing wishes seemingly out of thin air, and once these
laws are complied with, anyone can make their dreams a reality

What is your opinion on Peter Singer and his ethical views?
He is certainly a very controversial philosopher - where do /you/ stand on his viewpoints [on Animal rights, Euthanasia, personhood etc.]? Explain.

What are your views on Peter Singer?
He's supposedly the father of the animal rights movement. His views on abortion make me want to vomit but what do you think of him as far as animal rights go? No he's pro-choice but believes you should be able to chose after the child is born. Yeah, he's done a lot of good. Writing Animal Liberation, for starters. I don't get why he isn't vegan though.

How does the proletariat have a universal character??
In Peter Singer's 'Marx - A Very Short Introduction', I have read that, since human alienation is not a problem of a particular class, but a universal problem, whatever is to solve it must have a universal character', and that Marx claims the proletariat has this universal character 'in virtue of its total deprivation'. But how can 'total deprivation' be a universal characterisitc? Not every is deprivaed. Some people have never known deprivation or anything like it. apologies for the spelling errors....

Can someone give a summary of Tom Regan's and Peter Singer's beliefs?
I am looking at ethics surrounding animals and am confused by what different sources say they believe- its too complicated most of the time. I just want some simple, but accurate bullet points to go in my notes.
