Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.
OSCAR WILDE
The best way to make children good is to make them happy.
OSCAR WILDE
Long engagements give people the opportunity of finding out each other's character
before marriage, which is never advisable.
OSCAR WILDE
Between men and women there is no friendship possible. There is passion, enmity, worship,
love, but no friendship.
OSCAR WILDE
A man can be happy with any woman, as long as he does not love her.

OSCAR WILDE
Mere color, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in
a thousand different ways.
OSCAR WILDE
It is better to be beautiful than to be good, but it is better to be good than to be ugly.
Send quote to a friend
OSCAR WILDE
The books that the world calls immoral are the books that show the world its own shame.

OSCAR WILDE
Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing
that is worth knowing can be taught.
OSCAR WILDE
Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast.
OSCAR WILDE
The past is of no importance. The present is of no importance. It is with the future that
we have to deal. For the past is what man should not have been. The present is what man
ought not to be. The future is what artists are.

Famous Plato quotes from Phaedrus

* Beloved Pan, and all ye other gods who haunt this place, give me beauty in the
inward soul; and may the outward and inward man be at one. May I reckon the wise to be
the wealthy, and may I have such a quantity of gold as none but the temperate can
carry.

* Friends have all things in common.

Famous Plato quotes from The Symposium

* And the true order of going, or being led by another, to the things of love, is to begin
from the beauties of earth and mount upwards for the sake of that other beauty, using
these steps only, and from one going on to two, and from two to all fair forms to fair
practices, and from fair practices to fair notions, until from fair notions he arrives at the
notion of absolute beauty, and at last knows what the essence of beauty is.

* Beholding beauty with the eye of the mind, he will be enabled to bring forth, not
images of beauty, but realities (for he has hold not of an image but of a reality), and
bringing forth and nourishing true virtue to become the friend of God and be immortal, if
mortal man may.

Famous Plato quotes from The Apology

* Socrates is a doer of evil, who corrupts the youth; and who does not believe in the
gods of the state, but has other new divinities of his own. Such is the charge.

* Either death is a state of nothingness and utter unconsciousness, or, as men say,
there is a change and migration of the soul from this world to another. ...Now if death be
of such a nature, I say that to die is to gain; for eternity is then only a single night.

* No evil can happen to a good man, neither in life nor after death.

* The hour of departure has arrived, and we go our ways - I to die, and you to live.
Which is better God only knows.

Famous Plato quotes from Phaedo

* Man is a prisoner who has no right to open the door of his prison and run away...A
man should wait, and not take his own life until God summons him.

* Must not all things at the last be swallowed up in death?

* Will you not allow that I have as much of the spirit of prophesy in me as the swans?
For they, when they perceive that they must die, having sung all their life long, do then
sing more lustily than ever, rejoicing in the thought that they are going to the god they
serve.

Famous Plato quotes from The Republic

Book I

* When there is an income tax, the just man will pay more and the unjust less on the
same amount of income.

* Mankind censure injustice fearing that they may be the victims of it, and not because
they shrink from committing it.

* The beginning is the most important part of the work.

Book II

* Then the first thing will be to establish a censorship of the writers of fiction, and let
the censors receive any tale of fiction which is good, and reject the bad; and we will
desire mothers and nurses to tell their children the authorized ones only.

* If we mean our future guardians to regard the habit of quarrelling among themselves
as of all things the basest, should any word be said to them of the wars in heaven, and of
the plots and fightings of the gods against one another, for they are not true. No, we shall
never mention the battles of the giants, or let them be embroidered on garments; and we
shall be silent about the innumerable other quarrels of gods and heroes with their friends
and relatives. If they would only believe us we would tell them that quarrelling is unholy,
and that never up to this time has there been any quarrel between citizens; this is what
old men and old women should being by telling children; and when they grow up, the poets
also should be told to compose for them in a similar spirit.

Other Plato Quotes

* There is only one good, which is knowledge, and one evil, which is ignorance.

* Wherever it has been established that it is shameful to be involved with sexual
relationships with men, that is due to evil on the part of the rulers, and to cowardice on
the part of the governed.

* The learning and knowledge that we have, is, at the most, but little compared to that
of which we are ignorant.

* No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.

* One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics, is that you end up being
governed by your inferiors.

* Ignorance, the root and the stem of every evil.

* Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will
find a way around the laws.

* At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet.

Everything You Want Appears -- Seemingly Out of Thin Air

There is a science that deals with manifesting desires. Many
people regard it as mystical or esoteric, but it's actually a
science like physics or algebra.

There are certain immutable laws that govern the process of
materializing wishes seemingly out of thin air, and once these
laws are complied with, anyone can make their dreams a reality
-- with absolute certainty.

I'm smart but I'm a B student? I don't get it!?
My auntie who studied at Oxford University and is a biologist says I'm smart;however I don't see how? I have aspergers if it helps? I find most of the time that school is really boring. I also do okay in tests not amazingly well, I'm in year 9 by the way. In primary school I didn't do so well;although once I started to work harder I did okay. I'm still an okay student, I don't do amazingly well. People generally say I'm very clever and that I have amazing critical thinking skills, but not philosophical at all. My focus levels suck and if I don't like a subject I generally don't try too hard on it. But when I do like a subject I still get the same mark from not understanding a question or not primarily focusing on the task given at hand. If I'm clever, why am I a B student? This other person in our year does really well at school: he has very good attention skills, I'm guessing. My attention skills suck and this other person makes me feel bad about myself^_~ So if I'm smart, why am I a B student?

Are you GOOD or EVIL?
This question has become rather philosophical. Does Good and Evil exist as counterparts in the human. Just like within the atom - protons and neutrons coexist. Is the same theory applicable to the human being ? Which one of the two do you veer more-so towards ? Peace to all who Respond !!

Senior Citizens: How real do you think you are? And if your not how do you know what you put over isn't real?
A little philosophical, I hope not too much, In my opinion Descartes was out of his tree Malcky. But i understand that we are all real in our selves it's just are we real in what we portray? What are we giving over to others? Are we trying to give a false self with the real self still inside secret and in doing this our real self comes out anyway? Can we ever hide our true selves even though we think we are? Nem, my point is that whoever we are and what ever mask we wear, can we really hide the reality of who we are? I might indeed be Ken Dodd as I have sometimes said. But that doesn't mean my personality wont manifest it's self and so showing my true self. Just running the monkey up the flag pole so to speak Nem.

What is this philosophical topic called?
Sorry for not having the question in the question, it's kinda long. It goes kind of like this: "We are only imperfect versions of our true selves" It also extends to all objects being the imperfect versions as well.
