Stephen Fry: Philosophy is an odd thing. When we use the word in everyday speech you know you sometimes hear it hilariously. They say, Oh, its never good to be late. Thats my philosophy. You think thats a generous description of that rather dull precept to call it a philosophy, but its odd how philosophers generally speaking, at least the ones Ive read or the ones I you know value, dont have in that sense a philosophy. There is no particular Socratic or Nietzschean or Kantian way to live your life. They dont offer ethical codes and standards by which to live your life. They dont offer a philosophy to follow. They just simply raise an enormous number of questions mostly, so in the sense that you put the question is there a philosopher thats important to me. Well I me I loved really the sort of the Bertrand Russell grand sort of tour of philosophy, the history of philosophy from the pre Socratics as they're called, Zeno and so on through to Socrates and Plato and Aristotle. I never quite liked Aristotle. I think thats partly... Although he was obviously a genius and brilliant and he invented logic, so whats not to like. I think it was his influence on the medieval mind was probably rather pernicious ... From: FFreeThinker2 Views: 176887 1544 ratings Time: 03:45 More in Education Does Philosophy Still Matter? | The New School by thenewschoolnyc 1 Feb 2011 at 8:21am Does Philosophy Still Matter? | The New School THE NEW SCHOOL | www.newschool.edu A distinguished panel addresses this question on the occasion of the publication of Professor James Miller's new book, Examined Lives From Socrates to Nietzsche. Islam and the falling away of the church?
I have been watching a video of a great Godly man named Joel Richardson who is a Christian who preaches the gospel to Muslims. He said after 911 there was an increase of Americans, many of them claiming to be Christians, who converted to Islam. He said he then realised that Islam was more than just another false religion. He said there was a very powerful, seductive, dark, demonic force working in the Islamic religion. He then began to investigate what Muslims believed about the end times concerning the Antichrist. He was shocked to discover that the one the Muslims are awaiting to lead them was identical to the description of the Biblical Antichrist. Read on...
Today, all in the name of tolerance and political correctness, many churches are allowing Muslims to come to their church and share their faith. Muslims are telling Christians that they too believe in Jesus and many Christians are starting to get itchy ears. What many Christians don't realise is that in Islamic tradition Jesus will return as a Muslim. He will tell Christians that they were wrong all along, that the Bible is corrupt, that he never claimed to be the Son of God, that he did not die on the cross, and that Islam is the true religion. Muslims also believe in the coming of the Mahdi who will unite a Muslim empire.
The book of Daniel talks about the little horn and Revelation talks about the beast and the false prophet. In my opinion I believe the little horn will be the Mahdi and the false prophet will be the Islamic Jesus who will come in the end times to lead Islam. Your opinions?

How can a neutral party be expected to choose one religion?
Let's say that someone is born and raised in a town where there is no concept of religion whatsoever. No outside influences, never told what to believe, only taught the scientific explanations for which there is the most evidence. This person then goes into the outside world and discovers that there are people all across the worlds, with literally thousands of different religious belief systems. Supposing he is never preached at, which religion would this person be most inclined to choose?
The religious belief a person chooses to have is based purely upon geographical location, family traditions, upbringing etc., so with all religions claiming to be the true religion, how can a completely neutral party, an observer, be expected to have a preference? Nowadays we laugh at the ancient Greek belief systems, but our modern day ones are ultimately no different.
I would consider myself relatively neutral, while I was taught about different belief systems, I was never brought up to have a preference, so naturally I followed the route that made the most sense and provided me with the most evidence, irreligion. People are always telling me I should convert, and that atheism is wrong etc., but how can I be expected to have a preference from the thousands of world religions. How can I simply accept Pascal's Wager when everyone says something different is the one true way to live.
I'm not looking to be converted, simply posing a question.

Christians, with all due respect, why do you use the following arguments?
Salam. I hope you're having a good day.
Recently I have seen many Christians use the arguments below. I was wondering if you could please explain why you use them.
1 <> "When God calls his sheep, they come to him. I don't expect you to hear or understand His call."
(a) Surely anyone can say that about their religion?
(b) Therefore, it doesn't prove that your religion is true, because it could be used by any religion.
(c) Claiming that the devil is misguiding me is, again, something everyone can say.
(d) In order to make these statement true, you have to first prove that your religion is true. I'm not asking you to do this right now, I'm just saying.
2 <> "Religion isn't meant to make sense. Humans can't understand everything."
(a) Well surely if the religion doesn't make sense and has contradictions, it is not perfect. If it is not perfect, it is not from God, who is perfect.
(b) If this statement is true, then humans will have many interpretations, which will in turn lead to disputes and arguments, and ultimately, denominations. There should be one true religion, and therefore it should be as clear and as perfect as possible because that way humans will be able to follow it properly.
3 <> "There are no contradictions in the Bible."
There are. For your convenience, I will list some below.
1. God is satisfied with his works
Gen 1:31
God is dissatisfied with his works.
Gen 6:6
2. God dwells in chosen temples
2 Chron 7:12,16
God dwells not in temples
Acts 7:48
3. God dwells in light
Tim 6:16
God dwells in darkness
1 Kings 8:12/ Ps 18:11/ Ps 97:2
4. God is seen and heard
Ex 33:23/ Ex 33:11/ Gen 3:9,10/ Gen 32:30/ Is 6:1/
Ex 24:9-11
God is invisible and cannot be heard
John 1:18/ John 5:37/ Ex 33:20/ 1 Tim 6:16
5. God is tired and rests
Ex 31:17
God is never tired and never rests
Is 40:28
6. God is everywhere present, sees and knows all things
Prov 15:3/ Ps 139:7-10/ Job 34:22,21
God is not everywhere present, neither sees nor knows all
things
Gen 11:5/ Gen 18:20,21/ Gen 3:8
7. God knows the hearts of men
Acts 1:24/ Ps 139:2,3
God tries men to find out what is in their heart
Deut 13:3/ Deut 8:2/ Gen 22:12
8. God is all powerful
Jer 32:27/ Matt 19:26
God is not all powerful
Judg 1:19
9. God is unchangeable
James 1:17/ Mal 3:6/ Ezek 24:14/ Num 23:19
God is changeable
Gen 6:6/ Jonah 3:10/ 1 Sam 2:30,31/ 2 Kings 20:1,4,5,6/
Ex 33:1,3,17,14
10. God is just and impartial
Ps 92:15/ Gen 18:25/ Deut 32:4/ Rom 2:11/ Ezek 18:25
God is unjust and partial
Gen 9:25/ Ex 20:5/ Rom 9:11-13/ Matt 13:12
11. God is the author of evil
Lam 3:38/ Jer 18:11/ Is 45:7/ Amos 3:6/ Ezek 20:25
God is not the author of evil
(a) Let's look at one, 5, including context.
God is tired and rests
Ex 31:17
God is never tired and never rests
Is 40:28
You say that God resting on the 7th day was a role model for humans to follow. But He is God. A god cannot be a role model for humans, because we can never be like God. Is trying to be like God allowed?. Good humans can be role models for humans, such as the Prophets, peace be upon them.
I'm not asking you to reflect these points to Islam, because previously some have said "and does Islam make sense?". I can answer these, but please, if you can, try and keep relevant to the question, because I want to read your opinions.
I appreciate the time and effort you have spent just reading this question.
Evidently I am not making myself clear enough.
Please, I would really appreciate it if you answered because I want to read what you think.
So far, all you are proving is that you have no more evidence to prove that your religion is true so you are insulting Islam. Insulting something which is true doesn't make it any less true.
I'm not from Pakistan.
<><>To grāpe<><>
Thank you for answering.
I am not trying to make you stressed or feel bad AT ALL. . I'm just wondering why you would follow a religion if you KNOW it has contradictions and is therefore not perfect and is therefore not from God, who is perfect. I want to find out what YOU believe.
Please show me what I have done wrong, and what you say I have failed to research rather than just making claims. I do not like remaining ignorant of other religions, and that is why I am posting this question to find out what Christians believe.
