Today's Story on HAPPINESS: Do we ever do enough to maintain our capacity to be happy? Once we've ascertained some understanding on what feeds the roots of happiness, we actively need to replenish the fodder. I was once reading an article from a well known musician and singer from the 1960's. He maintained that one of the biggest attributes he possessed was his ability to talk and be polite. He said that there was one particular sentence that open more doors than you could imagine. Now before I tell you the sentence, a wise person would have used this on numerous occasions during every day. But what made this sentence particular impressive was this musician used it to advance his career, from a mere jobbing musician and singer to international artiste. The sentence was, 'Can you help me please.' The musician claimed that people have an incredible desire to help. So upon hearing this question people just naturally want to be HELPFUL. As with a ripple in a lake, if we ask for help 'more often' then that would start the ripple; however before that ripple reaches the edge of the lake we need to start another. This is how often we need to feed and maintain our level of happiness. One way is to encourage people, including you, is to never be too proud to ask for help. Today's story is a slight twist to this scenario, but nonetheless the main theme is being HELPFUL. AN AUSSIE STORY Years ago a hardworking man took his family from New York State to Australia to take advantage of a work opportunity there. Part of this man's family was a handsome young son who had aspirations of joining the circus as a trapeze artist or an actor. This young fellow, biding his time until a circus job or even one as a stagehand came along, worked at the local shipyards which bordered on the worse section of town. Walking home from work one evening this young man was attacked by five thugs who wanted to rob him. Instead of just giving up his money the young fellow resisted. However they bested him easily and proceeded to beat him to a pulp. They mashed his face with their boots, and kicked and beat his body brutally with clubs, leaving him for dead. When the police happened to find him lying in the road they assumed he was dead and called for the Morgue Wagon. On the way to the morgue a policeman heard him gasp for air, and they immediately took him to the emergency unit at the hospital. When he was placed on a gurney a nurse remarked to her horror, that this young man no longer had a face. Each eye socket was smashed, his skull, legs, and arms fractured, his nose literally hanging from his face, all is teeth were gone, and his jaw was almost completely torn from his skull. Although his life was spared, he spent over a year in the hospital. When he finally left, his body may have healed but his face was disgusting to look at. He was no longer the handsome youth that everyone admired. When the young man started to look for work again he was turned down by everyone just on account of the way he looked. One potential employer suggested to him that he join the freak show at the circus as The Man Who Had No Face. And he did this for a while. He was still rejected by everyone and no one wanted to be seen in his company. He had thoughts of suicide. This went on for five years. One day he passed a church and sought some solace there. Entering the church he encountered a priest who saw him sobbing while kneeling in a pew. The priest took pity on him and took him to the rectory where they talked at length. The priest was impressed with him to such a degree that he said that he would do everything possible for him that could be done to restore his dignity and life, if the young man would promise to be the best Catholic he could be, and trust in God's mercy to free him from his torturous life. The young man went to Mass and communion every day, and after thanking God for saving his life, asked God to only give him peace of mind and the grace to be the best man he could ever be in His eyes. The priest, through his personal contacts was able to secure the services of the best plastic surgeon in Australia. There would be no cost to the young man, as the doctor was the priest's best friend. The doctor too was so impressed by the young man. Whose outlook now on life, even though he had experienced the worst, was filled with good humor and love. The surgery was a miraculous success. All the best dental work was also done for him. The young man became everything he promised God he would be. He was also blessed with a wonderful, beautiful wife, many children, and success in an industry which would have been the furthest thing from his mind as a career, if not for the goodness of God and the love of the people who cared for him. This he acknowledges publicly. The young man's name is... Mel Gibson. (Attributed to Paul Harvey) QUOTE: 'Go often to the house of thy friend; for weeds soon choke up an unused path.' A simple question? disciples?
this question relates to sin, it starts with Jesus and his disciples coming across a blind man
John 9:2-3 "...Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents so that he was born blind" jesus asnswers " Neither he nor his parents sinned it is so that the works of God might be made visible through him" this answer opens up an interesting insight, one that, biblical scholar John Charles Ryle ( Bishop of Liverpool Cof E) expands on in his Expository 'Thoughts on John'; he remarks; " A deep and intrusive principle lies in these words. They surley throw some light on the great question on the origen of sin ( evil) God has thought fit to allow evil to exist in order that he may have a platform for showing his mercy, grace and compassion. If man has never fallen there would have been no opportunity of showing devine mercy. But permitting evil, mysterious as it seems, Gods work of grace, mercy and wisdom in saving sinners have been wonderfully manifested to all his creatures.............
.....The redeeming of the church of elect sinners is the means of showing..." here he quotes "..... a showing to principalities and power the manifested wisdom of God" Eph 3:10.
in affect he and the bible states that God invented sin to then have the ability to show his mercy and kindness, thus God picked out an unfortunate few and made them suffer in order to be able to show his power.
do you think that this is the work of a compasionate God?
wolfechu: ...........means there is more to come you were a little premature in your answer
isn't this the same as me coming over to you and hurting you, just so I would look good by racing you to the hospital, then buyng you grapes and tucking you in, just to prove how compassionate I am
doesn't God Omniscience mean that he woud have known in advance that Eve was commit the, supposed, original sin, thus having the power to prevent it. Why didn't he? plus why would God place the tree of Knowledge of good and evil in the garden of eden unless he meant for them to sin. God needs sin to survive as we know without the original sin there would be no need for the atonement and thus no need for us to glory him
John Charles Ryle was born in 1816, he attended Eton and Oxford and was made a minister ofthe Anglican church in 1841, ordained as Bishop ofLiverpool in 1880until hisdeathin1900.
his writings are scriptual and expository, he was a conservative theologeon and scholar

Will church membership and activity guarantee our getting into God's Kingdom?
Bishop Ryle said, "Let it be a solid principle for us never to be satisfied merely with church membership for you may actually be in the net but outside of Christ." He was referring to the dragnet in Jesus' parable (Matthew 13:47-52).
This dragnet catches 'all sorts of fish' many of which are unsuitable and are pulled out (by the angels) and burned. Actually, the bad fish are called 'wicked' people, and the furnace is hell. Given that Jesus had earlier warned that 'Not everyone saying to me, 'Lord, Lord!' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven... I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers' - does this show that Christians are to expect pretenders in their midst and that it is the angels' task to sort them out on the Day of Judgment?
Hope of kingdom - no matter what hell turns out to be, Jesus' warnings are so severe it's clear it is real, eternal, and involves rejection and anguish. But the JWs say it is merely everlasting sleep-like death so they would never have scared that lady.

How d'ya spot a 'false teacher/ prophet? Need a 'most wanted' poster as leadin Bible scholars aid discerning?
Christ -- The Solid Rock and Anchor of My Soul
At the end of days, truth is under attack and lies will abound. That is why Jesus said watch out for false teachers and counterfeit religion. When faced with a similar situation at the turn of the century, evangelicals produced a work called the FUNDAMENTALS in 1909-1915.
These writers: (R.A. Torrey [of Biola], B.B. Warfield [of Westminster Seminary], J.C. Ryle [devotional writer], G. Campbell Morgan [an expositor pastor], C.I. Scofield [of the study Bible], James M. Gray [MBI], A.T. Pierson [devotional writer]) distilled down the fundamental beliefs that distinguish a true believer from a false or counterfeit one. They boiled down all theology into seven essentials. They then presented and explained these seven doctrines in a multi-volume set of books called "The Fundamentals". Here is their list of the seven essentials.
1. INSPIRATION: The Inspiration and Reliable Historicity of the Bible.
2. CREATION: The error of Evolution

2. CREATION: The error of Evolutionism and Darwinism.
3. DOCTRINE: The naming of the cults' errors [Jehovah Witness, Mormonism, Christian Science, Spiritism].
4. DEPRAVITY: The reality of sin.
5. SUBSTITUTION: Biblical salvation by faith through the grace of God.
6. IMPUTATION: The errors of Roman Catholicism.
7. CHRISTOLOGY: The Deity, the work, and the personal visible return of Christ.
How to Spot a False Teacher
These men were making a "most wanted" poster for believers--
Last part next
OK so far?
These men were making a "most wanted" poster for believers--showing who the enemy of the truth was.
So how do we spot these false teachers?
What do these signposts pointing people in the wrong direction believe and teach?
What is the message promoted by Satan's legion of liars?
Often it is not what they say--but what they don't say that identifies them! What do false teachers deny? How do you spot a false teacher?
There are clear signs of an apostate or false teacher:
THEY DENY CHRIST IS THE ONLY WAY. 1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons
THEY DENY OUR LIBERTY IN CHRIST.
1 Timothy 4:3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
THEY DENY DIVINE POWER.
2 Timothy 3:4-5 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
THEY DENY BIBLICAL TRUTH.
2 Timothy 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith
THEY DENY BIBLICAL TRUTH.
2 Timothy 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith;
THEY DENY THE NECESSITY OF SOUND DOCTRINE.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;
4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
THEY DENY THE DEITY OF CHRIST.
2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them -- bringing swift destruction on themselves. (NIV)
THEY DENY THE REALITY OF CHRIST COMING AGAIN.
2 Peter 3:3-4 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,
4 and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation."
THEY DENY THE NECESSITY OF PERSONAL HOLINESS.
Jude 18 how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts.
THEY DENY THE NECESSITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
Jude 19 These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.
The World Detached from Truth--Shipwreck
Love of the truth, as you saw yesterday in II Thessalonians 2, is the proof of salvation. Lost ones never receive a love of the truth so they never seek out and find Christ's offer of salvation.
To not love the truth leads to "shipwreck"; it meant that the ship you trusted to take you across the dangerous waters had failed you and you were not going to make it. If you lose your ship in the midst of the sea there is usually no hope, no place to go--and certain death.
Think of the implications of being in a doomed boat. Not believing the truth about God means that all who count on a lie to get them safely to the other shore--are lost forever!
1 Timothy 1:19-20 having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck, 20 of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.
What can cause a soul to be shipwrecked?
False teachers
Belief in a false Christ
So how do we stay safe as these dark days cast their shadow across society, media, culture, and every other realm of daily life?
Only one way--check the anchor of your soul.
When the world darkens, culture crumbles, and truth dies--you know the end of the world is near.
It is then that Jesus warned that the church would fill up with fruitless counterfeits. When that happens it is time for believers to brace for the storm that we know is coming.
The waves will only increase. Spiritual darkness will only deepen as deceptions grow.
These are days when we who know and love the Lord Jesus should reach into our hearts and grab onto our anchor line and feel it strongly holding us securely--tugging us homeward.
Jesus is Our Anchor
Hebrews 6:11-12, 18-20
And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance (plerophoreo - to overflowingly wear or hold or possess or have) of hope until the end,
12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil,
20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. NKJV
