Today's Story on HAPPINESS: Where do we go to find happiness? Is it in our favourite room, our favourite chair, our favourite holiday destination or our favourite food? Think of your favourite food and promise it yourself for later in the day; what do you think will happen? For the rest of the day you'll have a spring in your step knowing you've a pleasure to indulge in later. If you were to assess the quantity of happiness during the day; firstly leading up to your favourite food and secondly upon eating and resting following the meal; what was the longest period of happiness - leading up to, or actually eating? You could have experienced 8 hours of eagerness to eat your favourite food; yet the actual eating and resting took just one hour. It would appear sensible therefore to actively understand our own yearnings and aspirations and set certain goals and targets each day. Today's story is one that needs a tissue at hand in readiness for the odd tear of joy. Nothing will appear difficult to someone who believes there is something to accomplish. If you have a spring in your step and your general persona is happy, nothing will be a problem, just a challenge. THE BEST TEACHER EVER There is a story from many years ago of a primary school teacher. Her name was Mrs. Thompson. And as she stood in front of her 5th grade class on the very first day of school, she told the children a lie. Like most teachers, she looked at her students and said that she loved them all the same. But that was impossible because there in the front row, slumped in his seat, was a little boy named Teddy Stoddard. Mrs. Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed that he didn't play well with the other children, that his clothes were messy and that he constantly needed a bath. And, Teddy could be unpleasant. It got to the point where Mrs. Thompson would actually take delight in marking his papers with a broad red pen, making bold X's and then putting a big "F" at the top of his papers. At the school where Mrs. Thompson taught, she was required to review each child's past records and she put Teddy's off until last. However, when she reviewed his file, she was in for a surprise, Teddy's first grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is a bright child with a ready laugh. He does his work neatly and has good manners...he is a joy to be around." His second grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is an excellent student, well liked by his classmates, but he is troubled because his mother has a terminal illness and life at home must be a struggle." His third grade teacher wrote, "His mother's death has been hard on him. He tries to do his best but his father doesn't show much interest and his home life will soon affect him if some steps aren't taken." Teddy's fourth grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is withdrawn and doesn't show much interest in school. He doesn't have many friends and sometimes sleeps in class." By now, Mrs. Thompson realized the problem and she was ashamed of herself. She felt even worse when her students brought her Christmas presents, wrapped in beautiful paper and tied with pretty ribbons, except for Teddy's; his present which was clumsily wrapped in the heavy, brown paper that he got from a grocery bag. Mrs. Thompson took pains to open it in the middle of the other presents. Some of the children started to laugh when she found a rhinestone bracelet with some of the stones missing, and a bottle that was one quarter full of perfume. But she stifled the children's laughter when she exclaimed how pretty the bracelet was, putting it on, and dabbing some of the perfume on her wrist. Teddy Stoddard stayed after school that day just long enough to say, "Mrs. Thompson, today you smelled just like my mom used to." After the children left she cried for at least an hour. On that very day, she quit teaching reading, and writing, and arithmetic. Instead she began to teach children. Mrs. Thompson paid particular attention to Teddy. As she worked with him, his mind seemed to come alive. The more she encouraged him, the faster he responded. By the end of the year, Teddy had become one of the smartest children in the class and, despite her lie that she would love all the children the same, Teddy became one of her "teacher's pets." A year later, she found a note under her door, from Teddy, telling her that she was still the best teacher he ever had in his whole life. Six years went by before she got another note from Teddy. He then wrote that he had finished high school, third in his class, and she was still the best teacher he ever had in his whole life. Four years after that, she got another letter, saying that while things had been tough at times, he'd stayed in school, had stuck with it, and would soon graduate from college with the highest of honours. He assured Mrs. Thompson that she was still the best and favourite teacher he ever had in his whole life. Then four more years passed and yet another letter came. This time he explained that after he got his bachelor's degree, he decided to go a little further. The letter explained that she was still the best and favourite teacher he ever had. But now his name was a little longer - the letter was signed, Theodore F. Stoddard, MD. The story doesn't end there. You see, there was yet another letter that spring. Teddy said he'd met this girl and was going to be married. He explained that his father had died a couple of years ago and he was wondering if Mrs. Thompson might agree to sit in the place at the wedding that was usually reserved for the mother of the groom. Of course Mrs. Thompson did. And guess what? She wore that bracelet, the one with several rhinestones missing. And she made sure she was wearing the perfume that Teddy remembered his mother wearing on their last Christmas together. They hugged each other, and Dr. Stoddard whispered in Mrs. Thompson's ear, "Thank you Mrs. Thompson for believing in me. Thank you so much for making me feel important and showing me that I could make a difference." Mrs. Thompson, with tears in her eyes, whispered back. She said, "Teddy, you have it all wrong. You were the one who taught me that I could make a difference. I didn't know how to teach until I met you." (Unknown Author) (A story Dr. Wayne Dyer endearingly refers to as 'The Teddy Story' in his most recent lectures.) QUOTE: 'Happiness is not a station you arrive at, but a manner of travelling.' (Maragret Lee Runbeck)

Would you like to know what the Scottish words mean especially if you are coming to Scotland ?
Language Hoots man, see you Jimmy, it's a braw bricht moonlicht nicht the nicht, och aye the noo. We look to Scotland for all our ideas of civilisation Said - Voltaire and Suzie s While quizzing visitors to Scotland, 'language' appeared in the top ten answers, not because of 'Gaelic' or 'Scots' but due to a genuine problem with understanding what locals were saying. Visitors have on occasions thought fast-spoken residents were speaking Gaelic (pronounced gallic). By the eleventh century Gaelic, a tongue originating from Ireland, was becoming a dominant language in Scotland. However, by the sixteenth century it was confined to the northern and western areas. A new law was passed in 1695, encouraging the setting up of English Schools in the Highlands. This regulation was a clear attempt to dissuade people from using the language. In recent years there's been an upsurge in people learning 'the Gaelic'. A helpful guide for visiting tourists: If someone offers you a Glasgow kiss, refuse. (It's a less than charming expression for head butting.) A free house does not mean the drinks are free. (It's a pub not owned by a brewery.) Steamboats doesn't mean ships driven by steam. (It's an expression of drunkenness.) A square go is not a boxed set of traffic lights. (It's someone asking you for a fight.) A fag is not a gay person. (It's a cigarette.) Lifted by the police doesn't mean raised in the air. (It means arrested.) Being knocked up doesn't mean becoming pregnant. (It's a term used to awaken someone from his or her slumber.) A Highland fling has nothing to do with extra-marital relations up north. (It's a Scottish dance.) Being called 'hen' does not mean you look foul. (It's a term of endearment.) A nappy is not a napkin for wiping your mouth. (It's a diaper.) Ten Scottish words: Cuddie - horse. Puddock - frog. Bubbly Jock - turkey. Tattie Bogle - scarecrow. Dyke - wall. Breeks - trousers. Minging - rather smelly. Puggie - gambling machine. Spirtle - porridge stirrer. Baffies - slippers. Visitor: "Can you tell me where the railway station is?" Scotsman: (wildly gesticulating) "Ochayenaebother -palit'sdoontheroadandturnleftattheweehooseonthecorner." Visitor: (perplexed) "Are you a tourist too" "A monument dedicated to the Scottish pastime of doughnut hurling" A useful guide to the pronunciation of Scottish place names Leuchars - Loo-cars. Edinburgh - Edin-burr-ah. Kirkcaldy - Kirk-cawdie. Culross - Coo-ross. Milngavie - Mill-guy. Dounreay - Doom-ray-radio- active-run-fast. Kingussie - King-ewe-sea. Gullane - Gillin if you're posh, Gullan if you're not. Peebles - Pea-bills. Dumfries - Dumb-freeze. Did You Know? The words of exclamation, surprise or disgust "Great Scot!" originated in America. The words refer to General Winfield Scott (1786 -1866) - possibly due to his notorious fussiness and pomposity as a presidential candidate. The lowlanders had their own language 'Scots', an offshoot from old English mixed with many European influences. The dilution of 'Scots' was hastened by the Union of the Crowns in 1603, when James VI moved his court to London and by the Union of the Parliaments in 1707, when English became the language of Government. At school, "speak properly" meant "speak English". Thankfully the culling was not fatal and large chunks of 'Scots' remain within our diction. Not only that, the lingo seems to be evolving within our own brand of English like any other living vernacular. The posh Scot thinks 'sex' is what the potatoes are delivered in.

What do you think of this quote? What's Voltaire talking about? I was thinking; if there is a God he wouldn't need to be doubted because he would be RIGHT THERE in your disbelieving FACE.

Why do so many atheists convert on their deathbeds?
It is well known that many atheists cry out to God in their moments of despair. Voltaire shouted his denial of God while he enjoyed his good health, fame and fortune. He repudiated all his atheistic writings on his deathbed and frantically sought the ministrations of a Catholic priest. Fifty years after Voltaire's death his printing press was rolling out thousands of Bibles. Nikolai Lenin, as he lay on his deathbed, looked around him and frantically asked pardon of the tables and chairs in the room. If there is no afterlife, why the fear? Could it be possible that spiritual sight becomes available when the body is dying? Maybe they saw the demons waiting to drag them to Hell.

Any tips for my English Coursework?
Ok well heres my first engilish corsework assignment any tips. Capital Punishment Capital punishment has been applied since ancient times and was undertaken for many different offences. There are even sources in the Bible containing evidence that the penalty for murder was death. In the 1500?s only major crimes were followed by the death penalty some of which were treason, murder, theft, burglary, rape and arson. From 1723 parliament created many new capital offences which therefore led to an increase of the amount of people being put to death. Between 1740 and 1893 there were a total of 8753 executions in England & Wales. Some didn?t agree with the death penalty. During the 1750?s an Italian jurist, Cesare Beccaria; French philosopher, Voltaire ; English law reformers, Jeremy Bentham and Samuel Romily believed that ?capital punishment was cruel, over rated and occasionally was used by accident?; instead of capital punishment they believed that ?life imprisonment? was a better alternative. By the 1850?s these reform efforts began to have a break through. Venezuela in 1853 was the first nation to completely abolish the death penalty and were shortly followed by Portugal in 1867. Michigan in the US abolished Capital punishment for murder in 1847. Today it is almost gone in Western Europe and most of South America, Britain completely terminated capital punishment in 1965. There are many reasons to agree with the death penalty. The first is the fact that the criminal will be completely removed from the world; the criminal can obviously not commit any further crimes as they could if they were only sentenced to jail. It would also prove much cheaper. Many people believe that the government should spend public finances more wisely. Anti-capital punishment campaigners believe that it costs more to execute someone rather than giving them a life sentence: most of the time this is only due to the campaigners themselves delaying the death sentence with endless appeals to cancel the death sentence. There are many rules to choosing whether you deserve to be executed. If evidence proves that the crime was committed in the heat of the moment then Capital Punishment could be avoided, moreover if the accused has evidence against them that they planned the crime then there is a good chance capital punishment will be initiated. Although the death penalty does seem cheaper and overall a better thing to do there are many points made against the death penalty. Many innocent people have been executed by accident under capital punishment even worse than this; many accused people who were guilty of manslaughter are being accused of murder. It comes down to the skill of the lawyers in court furthermore the defendants life is in the hands of the lawyers. Another reason against capital punishment is the pain the families and friends have to go through leading up to the execution, during the execution and in some cases many years after. Moreover it is hard for the family to accept that a loved one is a criminal and even harder for them to make a decision of how they will be killed. Capital punishment always results in a criminal suffering some less than others although it still is extremely terrifying and no one is gaining anything out of killing a civilian even if he did commit a 1st class crime. In conclusion, I don?t agree with Capital Punishment. I believe no pain should be inflicted if, the criminal doesn?t want to continue in life, he should be given a life ending drug; there is no benefit to the world whatsoever by killing a criminal through pain; it will only lead to further arguments. If he wants to continue living he should be given a life sentence, then be given therapy and a chance to be released, furthermore put into better secured accommodation, in time people can change even a criminal to mass extent. I have used indented paragraphs just isnt showing
