Today's Story on LOVE: Love is an intense feeling of deep affection. Love can also mean an intense sexual attraction to someone. If we forget the personal feeling for a moment, how would we describe someone who shows love to the world? Perhaps a good example would be that you offer the same affection to everyone, whether a neighbour or an enemy. If you met a stranger, then you would offer the same help regardless. Of course this feeling of offering love to the world is one that many would think they readily apply each day. Like many moments of sadness a spiralling effect is created. If you are hurting, or you are suffering regular bouts of pain, your temperament is more unstable than normal; and your ability to offer love diminishes. Alternatively if you experience a few moments of selfishness, your greed to serve than mood increases and the chance of you offering any love also diminishes. Not me! Cries the reader... Unless you are very saintly, selfishness is difficult to shrug off. In some small way, each day, there is evidence of a selfish action. Forgive me for suggesting it can be eliminated, but selfishness can be weakened. To see it and understand it is half the battle. Have you ever been in a similar situation to this merchant in the next story? A HASIDIC STORY A wealthy Jewish merchant treats a poor old man with rudeness and disdain as they travel together on a train. When they arrive at their common destination, the merchant finds the station thronged with pious Jews waiting in ecstatic joy to greet the arrival of one of the holiest rabbis in Europe, and learns to his frustration that the old man in his compartment is that saintly rabbi. Embarrassed at his disgraceful behaviour and distraught that he missed a golden opportunity to speak in privacy to a wise and holy man, the merchant pushes his way through the crowd to find the old man. When he reaches him, he begs the rabbi's forgiveness and requests his blessing. The old rabbi looks at him and replies, "I cannot forgive you. To receive forgiveness you must go out and beg it from every poor old person in the world." (by: Brian Cavanaugh, T.O.R., The Sower's Seeds). QUOTE: 'Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.' (Ralph Waldo Emerson).

Are we really supposed to be miserable and unhappy at work?
Two of the biggest reasons for sick absence are now work related stress and depression, caused by unrealistically heavy work loads, impossible targets, job insecurity and bullying employers. It wasn't always like this. I can remember when the majority of people were happy at work and happy to go to work. A few years ago, two studies took place in the UK civil service, Whitehall1 and Whitehall 2, to ascertain the stress levels amongst civil servants. The findings were quite conclusive, in that they found the highest stress levels to be amongst the most junior grades, for the reasons mentioned above. Despite promises, nothing was ever done to rectify the situation. Now I know that people will say there's a recession on, blah blah, people are lucky to have jobs, blah, blah, but I don't see much evidence of CEOs, directors or shareholders sharing the misery.

Legal advice needed bullying and harassment at work?
Hi, I have been through the grievence process at work i the line with the bullying and harassment policy they have in place. The company is a multi-national bank and the 2nd largest so a big company. However i just work on the phone and have been bullied for about 3 -5 months during my proabation period. Now i have recently since december been off with work related stress caused by bullying and now awaiting the grivence outcome , because they have had the final hearing and now im just waiting. If this outcome is that YES i have been bullied, will my employer then give me my pay for the last 3 months as they dont do sick pay within the company just statutory sick pay and due to this I have lost my house (along with baby and girlfriend). Now what will happen when my report comes back on the grievence if it is upheld? They also asked for a medical reference from the doctor which we supplied. Thanks IM FROM THE UK AND SO SPAMMING THANK YOU Im sorry but that below is unacceptable. If you new how happy i used to be before this bullying (which is absoloutly severe) you would not react in such a flippant way...this is causing severe depression ! glad i never worked with you to be honest either! Now anyone please could you help on my origional post. Many thanks . P.S to the person who commented below.....DID YOU LOSE YOUR HOUSE AND FAMILY BECAUSE OF BULLYING!>? DOUBT IT

Returning back to work early due to work related stress?
Can someone advise if it is possible for me to return back to work early. I was signed off by the doctor on the 15th July to the 22nd July for stress at work. However, it is the 19th July and I'd like to return back to work today. I have so far contacted the HR department in order to do a return to work telephone interview and I said to her I'd like to return back now and that I can go to my doctors to get a return to work fit note from my doctor advising I am fine to return back to work, however she said because I have been signed off from the doctor for stress related till the 22nd July that they cannot allow me to return back before this date. To my understanding I should be able to return back earlier as long as I can provide a return to work fit note from the doctor, please can someone advise. Many thanks
